What is your ambition? What would you like to accomplish with your life? Maybe you have a long held dream? Where does God fit into your long held dream? In these verses Paul gives the reader a glimpse of his long held ambition and dream. He tells us in Romans 15:20 something of that long held dream. "It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else's foundation."These verses tell us that he is satisfied that he has preached the gospel in various places around the Middle East, and Paul now believes the time has come to preach the gospel in Spain. It is a long held ambition to preach the gospel in Spain. Paul is now taking steps to get there, but in the process he will go and visit the Christians living in Rome. Now how Paul got to Rome is another story. You could say he got there in chains. You could say he had an all expenses paid trip to Rome courtesy of the Roman government. Regardless of how he go there we can see Paul's burning desire to preach the gospel where it has not been preached before. This raises questions for us. We might not look upon ourselves as church planters. However, God has placed us in a position where He is asking us to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ. It might be amongst our family, our work colleagues, our school friends. Let us have the same ambition as Paul - to proclaim the good news.
