The word Trinity is not found in the Bible, and yet Christians will strongly tell you that God is a triune God. He is a God who has revealed Himself as one in three. If the word does not appear in the Bible why go to so much trouble defending defending the fact? We go to so much trouble because God is One in essence or nature but three in persons. The teaching of the trinity revolves around the fact that as God has revealed Himself, and we saw last week that God has revealed Himself, God has revealed Himself as one yet in three persons. So we have in Deuteronomy 6:4 the teaching that God is one. We have the teaching that God has revealed Himself as God the Father. God has revealed himself as God the Son. God has revealed Himself as God the Holy Spirit. There are numerous scriptures we could turn to. Jesus says it quite clearly in the commands given in Matthew 28:16-20. "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." Paul concludes his letter to the Christians in Corinth with "May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all" (2 Corinthians 13:14). Why is the teaching of the Trinity important? It defines who is a Christian. If you don't believe God is a triune God, then what god are you believing in? What is your response to the teaching of the Trinity who has revealed Himself as the Triune God?
