Tolerance is an admirable quality until you strike intolerance. christians are often accused of being intolerant due to the claim Jesus made. “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one else comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). In a society where there is no room for absolute truth, such a claim is highly intolerant. How dare anyone say that there is only one way to God! Yet Jesus did! The apostle John highlights the crucial importance of Jesus when he writes in his first letter, “Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God” (5:1). If we truly believe Jesus is the Christ, then such a belief will completely revolutionise how we live our lives. If we have truly crossed over from darkness to light then our lives should surely show it. What changes are being wrought in your life as a result of Jesus being the Christ? One of the changes John has consistently applied to the Christian is that of love. If our lives are revolutionised by Jesus then we love our brother or sister in Christ. If we believe Jesus is the Christ then it will change our view of the future and what is to come and we will take steps to prepare for it. If we believe Jesus is the Christ then we can truly say we are born of God. If we believe Jesus is the Christ then we have eternal life given to us by a gracious heavenly Father. What changes has God brought about in your life as a result of Jesus being the Christ?
