Think back to a time before you were a Christian. Now for some that might be challenging because you were raised in a Christian family. For others you were not raised in a Christian family. How did you know what a Christian should do or be?

Paul is writing to Titus who is pastoring several churches on Crete with the help of the elders. He has a group of brand new Christians under his care. They have one thought in mind. How should they live as Christians? The bulk of these new Christians are from pagan backgrounds. They have no Judeo heritage.

In Titus chapter two Paul instructs Titus as to what to teach these new Christians in what it means to follow Christ. Each group is given teaching as to how they should live. So, the older men are given these instructions. “Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.”

What would you teach someone who asks you how they are to live as a follower of Christ? What would you see as important to pass onto the next generation? More and more, as our society moves further and further away from the Creator God we will see people coming to Christ who have no concept of what a Christian is. We will have the challenge Titus had on Crete – teaching people what it means to be a Christ follower. Perhaps you are doing that already?
