"Does it sound too good to be true, then it probably is!" We hear this statement made in relation to many things. Perhaps it is connection with some computer scam. Perhaps it is a friend of a friend offering to triple your money in just six months. However consider the offer God makes to you. To live in the presence of a holy and righteous God, He offers you forgiveness and righteousness necessary to be in His presence. Such an offer comes with a cost. Now before you roll your eyes and say "I knew it was too good to be true," there had to be a cost. That cost is being borne by someone else. God offers you righteousness, the right standing you need in His presence. He offers to justify you so that your record of sins is wiped clean. The offer is there. The twist in all this is that God justifies the unjust. We are quick to complain that in our humanistic justice system that the unjust appear to get off leniently. Now you tell me that God justifies the unjust. But before you jump up and down, remember who the unjust are - us! Despite the fact that we are unjust, God steps into our lives and justifies us. But that does not mean there is no punishment for our sins. There is! God's Son, Jesus Christ, takes the punishment for us. What have you done with God's amazing "sounds too good to be true" offer of being declared righteous?
