Rev. Peter Greiner

No one could accuse Jesus of being weak, although through the centuries people have. Certainly, Jesus was meek and humble when needed. Yet all powerful and all knowing at other times. One who could calm storms and raise the dead had power at His disposal granted to Him by His Father.

How could One who was all powerful make Himself nothing as Paul writes to the church at Philippi. In these verses Paul is trying to describe someone who is indescribable. And there is a song entitled exactly that – “Indescribable!” He laid aside His powers.

He being in appearance as a man. He took on the nature of a servant. Yet He is also God. He humbled Himself. He obediently allowed evil men to nail Him to a cross. He became obedient to death – even death on a cross. Yet what God would put aside His powers and allow Himself to be killed?

It is a reminder of Aslan in The Lion, The Witch and Wardrobe, allows himself to be bound and killed so that He could save the citizens of His kingdom. That is what Jesus has done for His people. What response have you given to Jesus?
