Psalm One is known as a gateway psalm to the 149 psalms that follow. There are many different types of psalms. Thanksgiving, praise, messianic, imprecatory, despairing, to name a few. We will have our favourites. Psalm 23, Psalm 51, Psalm 121, Psalm 139 plus many others. The psalms are part of the wisdom literature of the Bible.

Psalm One challenges us to consider which way we will walk. Walk the way of the godly? Or, walk the way of the ungodly or wicked. The psalm tells us what to avoid and what to delight in.

There are many things we can delight in this world. For the writer he takes delight in the law of the LORD. We would put it down to taking delight in God’s Word, both His written Word and His living Word, Jesus!

What delight have you found in God’s Word in the last week or maybe even this morning. Share that delight you found. Count it a privilege that by God’s grace He has enabled you to take delight in His Word.

Since there are two ways listed in this psalm then we face a choice. Follow the godly, or, follow the ungodly way. Choose the right way and you will be blessed.
