I press on! Over the years we can think of tasks that have required effort to continue. As kids we rode our bikes the three kms to school. At times it took effort as you rode against a head wind. Other times you were diligent in watching for darting birds, but you pressed on.
At school you pressed on to finish an assignment. Or at work you pressed on to finish an order before it was shipped out for farmer’s to collect. It can be tough work pressing on.
The apostle Paul wrote of pressing on. “I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.” “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
Paul presses on. He wants the ultimate prize – the crown of righteousness which is on offer to all whom Christ Jesus has taken hold of. Let us look forward to that day when Christ Jesus hands us the prize. Let us press on to that day. There will be tough times. There will be times where we want to give up. But, like Paul let us press on for the ultimate goal. What a day of rejoicing that will be!
