Few of us like tests.  If we were to have a test then we would prefer the multiple choice type questions where you at least have a certain percentage of getting it right.  Throughout Matthew 22 Jesus has been facing a series of tests in the form of questions.  Who to invite to your next party?  Should I pay my taxes?  Is there life after death?

We come to yet another question?  “Which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”  This time a lawyer is engaged to ask the question.  How would you answer?  What would you say in response?  Which is the commandment?

Jesus responds with the following.  “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.  This is the first and greatest commandment.”  We must not forget the second part of Jesus’ response.  “Love your neighbour as yourself.”

We then have to ask ourselves, “What does it mean to love?”  For God to love the world it was a sacrificial love.  Our heavenly Father gave His Son, Jesus, so that we might be forgive, so that we might have eternal life.  For us to love God, we take delight in Him.

Ponder what you love.  Do you take delight in what you love?  If we love God we will take delight in Him.  If we love God we will take delight in what He loves.  We will take delight in His people.  WE will take delight in His Word.  We will take delight in who He is.  Take delight in God today?
